In implementation of the nationwide initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, under the theme: A Green Economy for a Sustainable Development, and in a bid to cement the profile of the Emirate as a global hub for finance, business and tourism, the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and the National Voluntary Social Program (Takatuf) jointly participate in the Earth Hour 2013 to partnering with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), in celebrating the Earth Hour event; which is staged annually in March.
This time around, the event will be marked on 23 March by switching off lights of several RTA premises in different districts of Dubai for one hour, from 08:30 pm to 09:30 pm without impacting the overall security & safety. The event marks a contribution from the RTA to the global efforts aimed at protecting the environment through conserving energy, and minimizing carbon waste resulting from the excessive use of power. This will accordingly step up the efficiency of environmental sustainability, diffuse the environmental awareness, encourage individuals & organizations to adopt environment-friendly practices capable of optimizing the use of electricity & water, and curb the negative impacts on the environment.
Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services Sector cum Head of Power Saving Team of the RTA, said: “The underlying objective of part taking in this global trail is to consolidate the efforts aimed at showcasing Dubai endeavours in conserving the environment, and increasing the number of personnel taking part in the campaign. The RTA also seeks to illustrate the power & impact of collective efforts in triggering the required change, disseminating the culture of conserving environmental resources among RTA employees & customers, and optimizing power consumption in all RTA facilities.
