RTA safety awards aim to raise safety awareness for stakeholders to play proactive roles aim to encourage them to adopt the best health, safety and environment practices, reinforce the leading roles within RTA and ensure compliance with the applicable standards.
The RTA Safety Awards categories stem from RTA’s Chairman of the Board & Executive Director H.E Matter Al Tayer’s initiative, which envisages RTAs vision for safe and smooth transport for all. The chairman is very demanding about safety in all RTA operations and is committed with the statement “NO Compromise to Safety.”
These awards are designed and developed to encourage RTA stakeholders to adopt and ensure the best safety practices at RTA’s workplaces. Comprising six categories, the RTA Safety Awards 2013 will recognize the best RTA Safety Consultant, the Best RTA Safety Contractors, the Best Employee Laborer of a Contractor and Valued Partners of RTA. In addition, RTA will also award internally for the best RTA Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Team, and the Best Green Initiative to align Strategic Goals with Dubai’s Green Economy initiatives.
To ensure implementation of the RTA Safety Awards 2013, under the guidance and support of Mr. AbdulMohsin Ibrahim Younes, CEO, Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector a Committee has been established, headed by Mr. Amair Saleem, Director of Safety, Risk, Regulation & Planning.
AbdulMohsin Ibrahim Younes, CEO, RTA’s Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector said that the Safety Awards aim at fostering the partnership and cooperation across all the organizations to set the concept and best practices of safe design, construction and operation and increase the ownership of safety and social responsibilities at all levels of the society, particularly with other stakeholders. These awards aim raising safety awareness amongst individuals, encouraging them to play a proactive and constructive role in supporting RTA to improve and enhance Safety.
Compliance with the standards of safety systems while executing projects is one of RTA’s main strategies. All projects undertaken by RTA are designed and implemented at the highest safety standards, and are subject to a thorough assessment in all stages to ensure that they are in line with international standards related to project safety,” added Younes.
For his part, Amair Saleem, Director, Safety and Risk Regulation Planning of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector explained that the safety process approach adopted by RTA is very much a modern risk based, which is focused on prediction and prevention i.e. to systematically assess and identify the risks during design in order to eliminate or control during all phases of activities.
As part of its strategy and commitment to Safety, RTA has set evaluation criteria for organizations before entering the 2013 Safety Awards. The criteria examine Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) systems of those entities to ensure Safety is applied as a key element in all operations of the organization. According to the criteria, the systems should include regular management of systems, ongoing planning for safety improvement, safety to identify, assess and control risks, integrated approach of safety in consultation with workplace parties and improvement in safety in the workplaces.
Results of the Safety Award evaluation will be revealed during the RTA Safety Award 2013 event where winners will be recognized and rewarded by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA.
The RTA launched its first safety awards in 2009 giving recognitions to its contactors and consultants. the award cycles continues on an annual basis to cover RTA partners, contractors, consultant, entities and its employees who adopted the best safety practices providing support to meet RTA safety related strategic goals.
