The delegation comprised a host of entities operating in the fields of roads, bridges, urban planning, water, electricity and telecommunication.
Nasir Bu Shehab, Director of RTA Strategic Planning, said: “The visit of the Sudanese delegation is part of RTA’s strategy to share expertise in implementing the best government standards, and exchange practices adopted in transport policies and plans with sister and friendly countries as the RTA has a wealth of knowledge in this field.
“The delegation watched a visual presentation about RTA’s vision, mission, and methodology adopted in planning roads and transport systems; which illustrate that sustainability constitute a pivotal point of the futuristic thinking of the RTA. A briefing was also made about RTA’s achievement since inception in uplifting roads & mass transit systems, and improving the traffic safety levels resulting in drastic cutting of traffic fatalities during the period 2006 – 2013, and the future plans & initiatives in the field of environmental and financial sustainability. The delegation also had an exposure to the outlines of Expo 2020, and the methodology adopted by the RTA in studying and addressing transport requirements necessary for the success of the exhibition which has become a defining point in the economic and development drive of Dubai,” added Bu Shehab.
In another episode of the visit, Udai Al Deesi, Director of RTA Assets, made a presentation to the visiting delegation about RTA’s policies and methodologies in the field of energy and green economy where he explained RTA’s commitment to the six pathways of the national initiative charted by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in January 2012, unleashing the green economy drive in the UAE under the theme: A Green Economy for a Sustainable Development. Accordingly, the RTA set up a Green Economy Committee tasked with carrying out a host of objectives revolving around the community in terms of integrating the transport plans with the urban and economic plans, upgrading the relevant links with the strategic partners, and making public transport and roads more friendly to residents. The Committee also attends to providing suitable transit & roads network for accessing various destinations in Dubai, increasing public transport ridership, managing traffic bottlenecks, working out plans to minimize the negative environmental impacts of private vehicles among other aspects capable of realizing the concept of the Green Economy.
The delegation also attended to a briefing by Nabeel Mohammed Salih, Director of Roads at the RTA, about the system related to coordinating services along with the updates made to enable it meet the requirements of the Emirate, particularly under the intense flow of urban and strategic infrastructure projects witnessed by the city. He shed light on the latest technological techniques used in coordinating services with all the relevant entities in the Dubai Emirate.
The visiting delegation commended the visual presentation and the rich information gathered during the visit. During the meetings, guests posed a number of questions that reflected their wish to avail more of RTA’s model in various aspects of transport sustainability plans. More info
