The 20 kilometre per hour (km/h) buffer over speed limits is still valid, Dubai Police have confirmed.
The UAE’s new federal traffic law came into effect from July 1, introduced stiffer penalties for over speeding and reckless drivers.
In response to Arabian Business query on whether the 20km/h grace window, the police said: “It is still valid.”
Under the new traffic law, motorists speeding by more than 80 km/h will receive a AED3,000 fine, 23 black points with their vehicle confiscated for 60 days.
Drivers speeding 60 km/h over the speed limit will get a AED2,000 fine, 12 black points and 30 days of vehicle confiscation while those driving not more than 60 km/h over speed limit will be fined AED1,500; 6 black points and 15 days of vehicle confiscation. More info
