The UAE will carry out a ‘National Disinfection Programme’ over the next three days, with authorities asking people to stay home unless “absolutely necessary”.
The Ministry of Health Prevention (MoHAP) and the Ministry of Interior (MoI) announced the programme overnight, which will be carried out in collaboration with relevant federal and local authorities.
The comprehensive plan, which part of measures to protect the public from the spread of coronavirus, will involve a complete sterilisation of all public utilities, public transport and metro services during the weekend.
Officials will start the programme at 8pm this evening (Thursday March 26) and complete it at 6am on Sunday March 29 next.
During the three days, movement of traffic and the public will be restricted, and public transport and metro services will also be halted.
Essential supplies
The ministries urged the public to stay at home during the disinfection period and not to go out unless it’s absolutely necessary to get essential supplies, such as food and medicine, or working in vital sectors.
Those sectors include energy, telecommunications, health, education, security, law enforcement, military, postal service, shipping and logistics, medicines, water, food, civil aviation, airports, passports, banking & financial services, government media and the service sectors, including petrol stations and construction.
The ministries said the workers’ personal or work identity will be checked and verified.
As per the previous announcement yesterday, pharmacies, and food retail outlets in the UAE, including cooperative societies, grocery stores, and supermarkets, will be allowed to operate 24 hours.
The two ministries also called upon the community members to follow instructions during the sanitsation time. More
