DUBAI – Dubai Metro is one of the safest in the world and is nearly crime free, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Thursday.
For every million passengers who travel on the metro in the emirate, 1.6 have faced crime of any kind, Col Abdullah al-Gaithi, deputy director of Organisational Security and Emergency of Dubai Police, which oversees Dubai Metro security, told the newspaper.
“It is one of the lowest figures globally, especially when compared to countries of the developed world, where the ratios are 13 crimes per million passengers in Britain, in Boston it’s 5.8 crimes per million passengers, while the crime is 12.3 per million passengers in Chicago and 7.5 per million passengers in Atlanta,” he said in a statement.
In Dubai only two incidents, both involving pick-pockets, have been reported, since the service was launched in September 2009.
The Dubai Metro carries 112,000 passengers on average daily.
