HE Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, today officially opened The Hotel Show 2011, the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Commenting after the opening ceremony, Al Mansoori commented, “The Hotel Show 2011 is an important event because in the Gulf especially, we need to encourage the tourism industry, and focus on the manufacturing division which will lead to a push in consumerism. Tourism currently contributes 7% to the UAE’s GDP, but within the next 5 years we forecast that will increase up to 10%.”
During the official tour, Al Mansoori visited the Samsung Electronics stand, where the Korean company was launching new series of TVs, LFD monitors, notebooks, tablets and domestic appliances for the hospitality industry.
Over at the Etisalat stand His Excellency was briefed about its new e-Hospitality services that offer a combination of voice PRI, internet dedicated access and Etisalat TV services.
Underscoring the sheer size of the region’s hotel development projects, Frederique Maurell, Exhibition Director, The Hotel Show 2011, said, “The regional hotel development pipeline from design to completion is worth over $6 billion. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the GCC countries are investing $185 billion in transport infrastructure over the next decade. The knock-on benefits for the hotel sector will be substantial.”
