Dubai launches useful municipal e-services during Gitex

Dubai Municipality pavilion at Gitex 2011 has exhibited its best practices and experiences in the field of e-government during different sessions in last four days of the exhibition.

The upgraded version of Dubai Municipality portal has been launched during a presentation, in which Websphere 7 technology was introduced to the public. Municipality was the first beneficiary of this technology in the Arabian Gulf region.

There was another speech on the title of “Services Directory”, which is a database that includes entire services rendered by the municipality to the public. This directory is available in the DM portal and it is regularly updated by concerned departments. Visitors of DM stall and attendees of lectures have been given different gifts and prizes through lucky draws every day under the sponsorship of Dell and Comguard.

‘eTaqyeem’ service to electronically evaluate the performance of departments and IT infrastructure and systems monitoring method were also introduced.

The newly lunched services include i-Dubai application, Usages of national identity card for municipality employees and a new website footprint.dm.ae. The stall also exhibited a number of e-services rendered by municipality as part of its strategy to achieve the zero visit government department and paperless work environment in the nearest future.

Eng. Hussain Nasser lootah, Director General at Dubai Municipality said the municipality is the first government department, which uses national ID card for the benefits of its employees, such as e-signature on documents, punching system and to read the data of landlords.

“We have also launched the i-Dubai application, which helps the iphone users to indentify the locations of important government and private services in the emirate of Dubai and to know the weather conditions of both land and sea. It also helps to complain, comment and evaluate the municipal services as well as to read building and landlord details using QR code system recently introduced by municipality,” he said.

Hamdan Khalifa Al Shaer, Director of the Environment Department said the newly launched website is to calculate the individuals’ ecological footprints and identify the different aspects that contribute to the high footprints per capita and raise awareness among residents.
