Ghanim Al-Ibrahim, director of Qatar Railways Co (QRC) has said the tenders for the country’s planned metro system will be delayed until the first quarter of 2012 in order to complete more detailed studies on the project, Reuters has reported.
“We will float the first tenders by the first quarter of 2012 and will award the project later in the year, in the fourth quarter.
We need more time to review and evaluate it,” said Al-Ibrahim. Qatar plans to spend a total of QR150bn ($41.2bn) on the metro project, which will link stadia for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he said.
