Road paving project in Dubai to take off in a few weeks

Dubai: A massive street paving project across the various districts of Dubai will begin within a few weeks, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced yesterday.

The project will be completed within four years and will cost Dh1 billion, according to Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and CEO of RTA.

He said the work will first start in areas where the sewage system is complete.

The first phase of the project is estimated to cost Dh150 million and will include five areas in Sha’abiyat Hatta.

The plan at this phase, he said, includes paving six kilometre-long streets at a cost of Dh25 million in the Al Ghusais 3 area.

The first phase will also see road works in theAl Quoz 2, Al Quoz 3 and Al Quoz 4 areas. Here, 22 kilometres of roads will be paved at an estimated cost of Dh110 million.

Second phase

The second phase of the project will start in 2013 and will cost around Dh140 million. This will cover the second Al Muhaisna area, and along with Al Barsha 2.

The third phase will start in 2014 at a cost of Dh130 million and will include Al Mamzar, Al Nahda 1, and Oud Al Muthinah 2.

Al Tayer added that the fourth phase will start in 2015 and will cover three areas at a cost of Dh140 million including Nad Al Sheba, Oud Al Matinah 1, and Al Khawaneej 2.

The fifth phase will start in 2016 and will cost Dh250 million.

The areas to be covered under this phase included the Jebel Ali Industrial Zone 1, Al Ghusais 3 , 4, and 5 areas, as well as Al Aweer 1.
