The event is supported by a host of reputed international organizations including the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), Korean Green Trust Fund, and the Public Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility.
The gathering, which was held at Meydan Hotel, was attended by Abdul Aziz Malik, Chairperson of the Higher Committee of the MENA Center for Transport Excellence, Professor Gomez- Ibanez from Kennedy School of Government and Harvard University in America, Dr. G C Kim from the Korean Transport Institute, in addition to Ajay Kumar, O P Agarwal, and Samuel Zimmerman from the World Bank.
At the start of the gathering, Al Tayer welcomed the participants wishing them a nice stay in the UAE and expressed his delight for staging this gathering in collaboration with reputed international organizations with a view to uplifting the leadership capabilities in planning urban transport in view of the importance of the leadership aspect in this regard and its vital role in achieving the objectives of establishing a wide & advanced public transport network that meets the requirements of the demographic, economic and urban development. It also seeks to raise the awareness about the requisites of planning for an integrated public transport network along with the various ingredients thereof and how to set them in their perspective.
Al Tayer confirmed that all resources and expertise of the RTA are offered to sisterly and friendly countries as the RTA had got excellent expertise in planning, designing and constructing roads and transportation systems over the past seven years, particularly in the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram and roads network projects.
Over the next years, the RTA will undertake mega projects to keep pace with the development drive currently seen by Dubai, and the projects intended to be undertaken to meet the requirements of hosting of the Expo 2020 in Dubai. The Forum offered a practical educational model for the participants including applied cases in the field of planning for constructing an urban transit network besides carrying out group drills, self-learning sessions and technical visits to a number of public transport sites of the RTA.
