Dubai Metro stops due to technical glitch
Dubai Metro stopped for 10 minutes on Tuesday, February 14, evening at around 7.30pm due to technical glitch. The trains stopped functioning between Union Station to Jebel Ali affecting the busy evening traffic. Commuters returning home after work had a tough time as entry gates were closed due to overcrowded stations.
RTA: More than a quarter million interact with us online
Hundreds of thousands of people are interacting with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) through new media such as YouTube, facebook and twitter, officials have said. Some 300,000 people viewed RTA’s videos on youtube, since launch of its channel on the YouTube in December 2008, Dr Aysha Al Busmait, Director of RTA’s Marketing and Corporate Communication said.

Qatar rail firm launches first set of contracts
“As soon as the contracts are awarded, we intend to order the tunnel boring machines; we are in discussions with the manufacturers,” the official stated.
The 30 pre-qualified contractors will be invited for presentations, regarding tunnelling, towards the end of this month and the most competent shortlisted.
Dubai Metro green line goes mobile with Huawei and Du
Huawei, a leading global information and communication technology (ICT) solutions provider, has successfully deployed its transmission network solution on the Dubai Metro through Du, enabling passengers and small retail businesses access to mobile services in the stations across 18 metro stops in total on the green line.
Funding for Abu Dhabi metro approved
The Abu Dhabi Metro, which will run approximately 131km and be supported by tram and bus feeder, is set to be operational by 2016-17. Abu Dhabi Metro would be linked to the Dubai Metro and other cities in the UAE and to other GCC states. Further details about the projects’ budgets, designs and completion dates will be released soon, according to the spokesman.

Iraq seeks bidders on $450M Kerbala rail project
Iraq has invited foreign companies to compete for a $450 million monorail project in the southern holy city of Kerbala, which hosts millions of Shi’ite pilgrims each year. Iraqi officials have ambitious plans for rail lines, including one for a multibillion-dollar Baghdad metro. None has yet been built as the government struggles to provide basics like electricity and water.
