Doha Metro tenders delayed to Q2
Tenders for the Doha Metro project will be issued in the second quarter, Qatar Railways Co’s group director said on Tuesday, in the second delay in tendering the $41 billion rail project. “It will be in April or May,” Ghanim al-Ibrahim told Reuters by telephone. The project will include four rail lines and will link stadiums for the 2022 soccer World Cup which Qatar will host, with an underground component in the centre of the capital Doha.

First Arab woman to drive Dubai metro
Mariam al-Safar has become the first woman to drive the Metro in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) as well as the Middle East. Only 28 years old, Safar, a Dubai Metro Passenger Services Supervisor has changed people’s perspective towards Middle Eastern women with her occupation and expertise.
Funding for Abu Dhabi metro approved
The Abu Dhabi Metro, which will run approximately 131km and be supported by tram and bus feeder, is set to be operational by 2016-17. Abu Dhabi Metro would be linked to the Dubai Metro and other cities in the UAE and to other GCC states. Further details about the projects’ budgets, designs and completion dates will be released soon, according to the spokesman.
RTA nod needed to sell special car numbers
Car owners issued with registration numbers before the establishment of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) need to buy an ownership certificate before they can sell that number, according to RTA.
RTA staff to be offered award scheme for research, education activities
The author of the best research will get a cheque of Dh20,000 along with a certificate of appreciation. The runner-up will walk away with prize money of Dh15,000 and a certificate and the third place will get Dh10,000 and a certificate of appreciation. Writers of the best 10 researches will be given Dh3,000 each.
