Abdul Mohsin Younes, CEO of RTA Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector said: “The RTA Strategic Planning Department studied the impact of the metro stations on the surrounding lands and properties in coordination with the Dubai Real Estate Regulatory Agency, or RERA, which provided the data about the rates of lands and properties in areas close or far from the metro stations.”

Etihad rail to link Dubai, Abu Dhabi by 2016

Etihad Rail has announced a multi-billion dollar inter-emirate rail network project to link the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi in 2016, before it is extended to other parts in 2018, Alittihad has reported. The company, which is carrying out one of the largest train projects in the Middle East, said it would launch the second phase later this year and it would extend nearly 510km to link Abu Dhabi to Jebel Ali and Dubai city.

Roads and Transport Authority has begun investigation into robbery complaint by a passenger, who claimed he lost his iPhone while riding the Dubai Metro. According to Al Bayan newspaper, theft is becoming common on the Metro. However, a complaint broadcast on Al Bath Al Mubasher programme led to the RTA initiating quick action.

The number of text messages leapfrogged from 25 million in 2009 to 34.164 million messages in 2011.The number of RTA online service users soared from 12,677 users in 2006 to about 137,000 users in 2011, and the number of companies registered in the website grew to about 12,000 companies in 2011 compared to about 3,000 companies in 2006.”

Dubai Metro set to break even in 2017

Dubai Metro is on the fast track to financial viability and is expected to break even in five years, while the bus system operated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is expected to recover costs in 2016. This follows a massive rise in passenger numbers and savings in the operations of the mass transit system. The public transport system has cut Dh1.5 billion in costs, according to the RTA.
