Dubai Metro saga not to hit UAE rail project
The high-profile dispute over unpaid bills that has beset the Dubai Metro project will not deter international bidders for contracts on the nation-wide rail network, the CEO of state-owned Union Railway said on Monday. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) was locked in a standoff with the Japanese-led consortium building the Dubai Metro for months over unpaid bills that run into billions of dollars, which brought construction to a near standstill.
Public transport master plan on target
The emirate is well on track to achieve its ambitious target of 30 per cent of commuters using public transport in the emirate by 2020. The Dubai government’s Comprehensive Integrated Public Transport Master Plan, which aims to provide a complete network of transport to passengers, has started yielding results with a marked increase in number of passengers using public transport.
No major hike in rental rates near Dubai Metro stations
Properties located near Dubai Metro stations have not seen the expected hike in rental rates that was initially anticipated when the new transport network opened in September last year, a Dubai-based real estate executive told Arabian Business.

Extra trains to help reduce Dubai Metro journey times
The Metro will double its number of trains when seven new stations open next month, which transport official say will cut travel times for rush-hour commuters by almost half. The number of trains on the Red Line will be increased to between 24 and 26 from 12 when the new stations are added to the system’s only operating line on April 25, said Ramadan Abdullah, who heads rail operations for the Roads and Transport Authority’s Rail Agency.

Dubai metro will double its number of trains when seven new stations open next month, according to a report on Friday. According to The National daily, a transport official said that the move would reduce the maximum waiting times at stations from 10 minutes to six minutes during rush hour.
