Dubai Metro commuters are allowed to end their fast on the platforms during Ramadan, said a top RTA (Dubai Roads and Transport Authority) official. “It is still not allowed to eat and drink inside the trains but passengers can now do so on the platforms and all other areas of the Metro station,” Ramadan Abdullah, Director of Rail Operations at the RTA told Gulf News on Tuesday.

Dubai has recorded a 38 per cent increase in the number of registered vehicles in the three years from 2006 to 2009, according to the latest statistics, revealed by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday. The total number of vehicles registered in Dubai has jumped from 740,187 in 2006 to 1,021,880 in 2009.

The latest figures released by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday showed that some 119 million passengers were expected to use public buses by the end of this year. Almost the same number of public bus passengers was recorded last year. However, the RTA said the public bus service had improved in terms of punctuality. About 62 per cent of buses were on time so far this year, up from 17 per cent in 2008.
