Dubai obtains $675m financing for Al Sufouh tramway project
Dubai The Dubai Department of Finance announced Wednesday that it has completed dual currency financing of $675 million (Dh2.48 billion) to complete phase 1 of the construction of the Al Sufouh Tram project. Earlier this month, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) awarded a 13-year maintenance contract for the Al Sufouh tramway to a consortium comprising Alstom and Cofely Besix Facility Management (FM).
Dubai Metro’s Green Line to be extended
The achievement is yet another feather in the cap for Dubai as Dubai Metro’s Red Line had set a Guinness World Record as the longest driverless Metro line in the world extending 52 km, in September 2011. Plans are under way to extend the Green Line to cover Academic City, International City and Lagoons within the next five years, Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of the Rail Agency at the RTA, said in an interview.
Dubai Metro creates new world record
The Dubai Metro has made it to the Guinness Book of World Records, as the longest driverless metro network in the world, spanning 74.695 kilometers, officials announced on Tuesday. The record has been set taking into account the combined length of the metro’s Green and Red Lines.
Greater efficiency helps Dubai Taxi boost revenue
The total revenue of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)-run Dubai Taxi crossed Dh1 billion in 2011, with more than 125 million passengers hiring cab services to make 62.36 million trips. This is in addition to revenues of privately owned taxi companies.
New road eases traffic problems in Dubai
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened the new western parallel road connecting Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) to Al Barsha, Emirates Hills and The Meadows. “Residents, workers and visitors now have a number of transit options available to them, including access points for motorists on the north and south side of the community, as well as two conveniently located Metro stations serving JLT,” he added.

RTA: More than a quarter million interact with us online
Hundreds of thousands of people are interacting with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) through new media such as YouTube, facebook and twitter, officials have said. Some 300,000 people viewed RTA’s videos on youtube, since launch of its channel on the YouTube in December 2008, Dr Aysha Al Busmait, Director of RTA’s Marketing and Corporate Communication said.
RTA adds more value to Nol cards with new feature
The Dubai public transportation Nol cards will be good for buying grocery items and for payment of shopping from different outlets in the emirate. RTA is already in talks with prominent grocery and supermarket chains to seek their participation.
