346 m passengers used public transport means in Dubai in 2011
The number of commuters who used the Red Line reached 60.024 million passengers, and the number of commuters who used the Green Line, which has been launched on 09/09/2011, reached 8.982 million passengers, thus the daily ridership of the metro currently exceeds 191 thousand passengers.

Public urged to leave their cars at home today
Today is the day you can do your bit for the environment and join Dubai Municipality in its ‘Car Free Day’ initiative. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, will start the initiative by boarding the Dubai Metro this morning from the Etisalat Metro Station.
Dubai to observe Car Free Day on Wednesday
Government departments in Dubai have geared up to observe ‘Car Free Day’ on Wednesday January 18. More than 2,500 employees in the Dubai Municipality headquarters and the nearby offices of DM will leave their cars at home and use other public transport means to reach their offices on Wednesday.
Nakheel launches cruise around Palm Jumeirah
Property developer Nakheel has launched a new cruise service that will provide tours of its projects off the coast of Dubai, beginning with the Palm Jumeirah. Dubai Metro to be quieter
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has partnered with a German firm to reduce the vibration and noise caused by the daily functioning of the Dubai Metro in areas adjoining the tracks, it was announced yesterday.
Road, rail and bridge projects planned in the GCC worth US$142 billion
The GCC has US$142 billion worth of road and bridge projects underway, or in the planning stages, according to figures released by market analysts Ventures Middle East; Saudi Arabia accounts for a third of this amount. Railway projects, including rail, metro, tram, and stations are valued at US$79 billion, this includes the US$30 billion GCC rail network.
Car-free Day on January 18 in Dubai
Announcing this at a press conference on Wednesday, Director General of DM Hussain Nasser Lootah said 13 government offices and ministries, mostly located along the Dubai Metro line are joining the civic body in its annual initiative on its third anniversary. The Municipality will close its parking lots and senior officials and employees of participating entities will board the Metro and buses on Wednesday, leaving their cars back home.
