The German transit multinational Thyssenkrupp has been awarded a contract to manufacture, supply, install and maintain more than 500 elevators and escalators for the Red Line North, Green Line and two additional major stations of Doha’s upcoming metro network.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The metro network in Qatar’s capital will consist of four lines: Red, Green, Gold and Blue, with plans for over 100 stations across a total length of more than 200 kilometers. The network will link major locations within the city, including Hamad International Airport, Lusail, West Bay and Education City.
“Doha Metro will commence services between the last quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020,” he said.
The first and second phases of Doha Metro are set to have total of about 100 stations, covering about 215km.
Such works as laying of the tracks, signalling and supply of power to facilities are ongoing. The operational testing of the facility is expected in the last quarter of next year.
