Dubai is reportedly planning to invite bids for road projects worth more than $1 billion as part of plans to upgrade transport links in the city.
Mattar Al Tayer, director general and chairman of its Roads and Transport Authority, told Bloomberg that the emirate is set to tender for projects worth as much as AED4 billion ($1.1 billion) within eight months.
His comments followed the awarding on Wednesday of a AED10.6 billion contract to extend the city’s metro system ahead of its hosting of the 2020 World Expo.
“There’s a lot of cuts in projects in neighbouring countries. Investing in infrastructure is one of the policies which the Dubai government has taken to steer the economy,” he said in comments published by Bloomberg. He declined to give details of the planned road improvements. More info
