The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has honored 25 distinguished cabbies as part of the Traffic Safety Award 2013, sponsored by Al Buhaira National Insurance Company for the fourth consecutive year, which is intended to educate drivers about road safety & safe driving as well as raising the operational efficiency of the DTC.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, which was held at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Dubai, Ahmed Khalfan Al Suwaidi, CEO of the DTC said, “The DTC assigns special care for its drivers and keeps in high regards their distinguished efforts in a way befitting the image of the DTC as it views them as ambassadors and representatives reflecting RTA’s methodology encapsulated in Goal 4 (Customers First). Accordingly we have based our strategy of raising drivers satisfaction as well as training and improving their performance. In this context we introduced several initiatives to reward hard-working drivers under a system for which a budget amounting to two million dirham has been allocated.”
“25 ideal cabbies are being honoured out of the total DTC’s cabbies of 9,000 under the Traffic Safety Award launched by the DTC in 2009, as an initiative from the Safety Team. The Award carries a purse of Dhs360,000 divided into three categories: Gold Category Award amounting to Dhs5,000 in addition to a Certificate of Appreciation; Silver Category Award amounting Dhs4,000 in addition to a Certificate of Appreciation; and the Bronze Category Award offering Dhs3,000 in addition to a Certificate of Appreciation. The Award aims at honoring ideal cabdrivers as per clear-cut, fixed and specific standards adopted in assessing taxi drivers, educating them about the requirements of safe driving, increasing DTC’s operational efficiency of the DTC,” continued Al Suwaidi.
