DUBAI // The world’s first zero-emission, hydrogen-powered trolley has hit the streets of Dubai.
The Dubai Trolley, a “hop-on hop-off” service, currently covers a distance of one kilometre along Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and moves at a stately 10kph, offering passengers access to Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar, and three downtown hotels.
The double-decker trolley, which can carry 50 people, operates from 4pm to midnight on weekdays and from 3pm to 11pm at weekends.
Three air-conditioned stations have also been constructed near The Address Downtown Dubai, Vida Downtown Dubai, and Manzil Downtown Dubai hotels.
Several crossings have been provided along the tramway to allow for safe pedestrian traffic.
The Dubai Trolley is expected to eventually span 7km through Downtown Dubai.
“Apart from being environmentally sustainable and enhancing the convenience of the public, it is designed to be another compelling tourist attraction in Dubai,” said Ahmad Al Matrooshi, managing director of Emaar Properties, developer of the area. More info
