Emirates will introduce premium economy class from November 2020, with plans to start with the A380 superjumbo and then scale the new seat option across the entire fleet, the airline’s chairman said on Monday.

“The target date for us is November 2020 and we should be starting the A380 to start with,” Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the carrier’s chairman and CEO, told reporters at a media roundtable at the Dubai Airshow.

He added that once it has been introduced on the A380 it will then be added to the rest of the Dubai-based airline’s fleet.

“The team within Emirates, they [do] a lot of business cases all the time, and this segment of the business, and they arrived at we need to do it,” he added.

In September, Emirates president Tim Clark said the delay in receiving the airline’s order of Boeing 777x jets would push back the roll out of the premium class option, which had originally been schedule to start in June 2020. More
