DUBAI — Vehicle registration and testing would be dearer by Dh20 in Dubai in the next few days as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has hiked the fees, while at the same time introducing new services.
The decision has been taken after approval from Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Currently, the combined cost of registration and testing is Dh420, with the RTA-appointed testing centres like Tasjeel, Samil or Tamam charging Dh50 for testing, and the RTA charging Dh370 for registration, which includes another Dh50 as testing fees.
“The vehicle testing fee has always been Dh100, with the testing centres charging Dh50 and the remaining Dh50 is charged as part of our registration fee which is Dh370 for light vehicles. We have only hiked the testing fee by Dh20, which will bring the light vehicle testing fee to Dh120,” said Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan.
The hike brings the light vehicle testing fee on par with heavy vehicle testing fee, which is already Dh120. This also brings the fee on par with other emirates like Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, which already charge Dh120 for vehicle testing.
However, the heavy vehicle owners will have to dish out more to register and test their trailers annually. “We will be introducing the trailer testing and registration by the end of this year as a safety measure, as faulty trailers are responsible for a lot of accidents. Until now trailers are not tested but we are introducing this along with the new vintage vehicle testing and registration service,” Bahrozyan added.
The trailer tests would cost Dh150 and the trailer registration fee would be Dh120. This would be excluding the fee charged for heavy vehicle testing and registration which totals to Dh450.
The vintage vehicle initiative has been a long time coming as reported by Khaleej Times earlier this year, and it would be launched soon with a dedicated testing facility that would take care of the delicate beauties. More info
