On the eve of Christmas, all the malls in Dubai were festooned with decorations and the majority of large stores displayed in their windows or shop floors at least one noticeable Christmas tree.

“The Dubai Mall has the most festive decorations,” said Shazia Rahim, a design student and Dubai-resident who, last week went shopping to at least three malls. Arsenio Balili, an employee of the Radisson Hotel and native of Bohol in the Phillipines said he preferred the ‘feel’ and ‘vibe’ at Mall of the Emirates (MOE) because “it’s more personal”.

Besides the shop windows done up with artificial snow and glimmering buntings, Mall of the Emirates, at the entrance, has a grand Christmas display, replete with snow sledges that children wearing Santa hats sat in and posed for photographs. The crowd at the display picked up towards the evening as the melodies of carols drifted into the ground floor of the mall.

The grand display comprises four green trees — all over 5feet, and the larger one much taller than 7feet — four silver trees and two golden trees, all surrounded by giant boxes wrapped as Christmas presents and one large red and gold throne-like chair. More info
