Qatar’s Prime Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani has paid a visit to the Red Line North element of the new Doha Metro project.
He visited the Al Qassar station site and received a briefing on work progress and ongoing excavations. Senior figures from Qatar rail told him that a total of 21 tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will be used to create all four lines of phase one, excavating up to 113km of tunnels between now and 2018.
Eight of those are being used on the Red Line North, which is being delivered by a consortium of contractors led by Italy’s Impregilo and featuring South Korea’s SK Engineering Construction Co and by Galfar Al Misnad Engineering Contracting.
Jacobs Engineering is delivering project management consultancy services for both the Red Line North and Red Line South contracts.
The line will contain 18 stations under the first phase, running from Al Wakrah and the new Hamad International Airport through central areas such as Msheireb, the corniche and West Bay before eventualy running out to Katara, Qatar University and the Lusail district. More info
