RTA has submitted a suggestion to explore the possibility of allowing those who have completed 17 years and six months to open a traffic file and train to drive light vehicles.
However, they will not be issued a licence unless they pass the test and complete 18 years of age.
The suggestion satisfies the needs of many youngsters who have completed the General School Secondary Certificate course but are still under 18 years and are interested in starting the training and qualifying process before the start of the academic year.
This is particularly relevant as training to drive is a long process and could interfere with their academics. The initiative will offer licence applicants an opportunity to receive driving training exposure before completing 18 years, according to the RTA.
