Nearly 400 passengers received tickets for committing offences on the Dubai Metro during the network’s first 50 days of operation, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed.
A total of 391 tickets spanning all 31 clauses in the Metro Fines and Offences Code were issued, said Ramadan Abdulla, Director of the Operations Department at the RTA’s Rail Agency.
The most common offence, accounting for 170 tickets, was using the Metro or entering or exiting fare zones without paying the set fare.
This was followed by 77 cases of eating and drinking in prohibited areas, 57 of using invalid cards, 19 of placing feet on seats and 13 of failing to present card on demand. Fines for the offences in the code range from Dh250 to Dh2,000.
