The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is offering a bonanza of prizes to public transport riders during the fifth renewal of the Public Transport Day on the first of November. Events will be kicked off by a draw for prizes on October 26th 2014 and roll on till the date of the event.
Dr. Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA Public Transport Agency and Chair of the Public Transport Day Committee, said: “Through the Public Transport Day initiative, which is celebrated on the first of November each year in concurrence with RTA’s anniversary, the RTA seeks to encourage various community segments to shun the reliance on private vehicles and switch to using public transport modes in the Emirate.” These modes, he continued, succeeded in lifting about 146 million riders in the first half of 2014 through the metro, buses and the water bus.
“The new edition of the Public Transport Day will be peculiar as it will be associated with an array of prizes to the worth of one million dirham offered to public transport users or those taking part in contests & events which will roll on for a week at the stations of the metro, buses and marine transport or via the social media network, starting from October 26th and culminating on the first of November 2014. About 4 KG of gold will be distributed to winners over the week along with complimentary NOL cards and other gift items,” he explained.
“The Public Transport Day event this year requires all public transport users to configure their Gold and Silver cards by registering their numbers through RTA’s (rta public transport) app on smart phones or using their Personalized Blue Cards to qualify for winning various prizes offered during daily draws. The Transport Week comprises a host of week-long events and programs including basketball matches hosting the American star Karim Abdul Jabbar. Interested individuals are required to register their names through the website http://rta.duplays.com. This event will be run at Al Ghubaiba Bus Station for one day only (from 9 am to 6 pm on the first of November),” elaborated Al Ali.
“Electronic Bikes contest will be staged during the Week at several metro stations namely: Burjuman, Al Ghubaiba, Al Fahidi, and Mall of the Emirates stations, as well as Al Satwa and Al Ghubaiba Bus stations, and Al Ghubaiba Marine station, from 8 am to 8 pm. A variety of other events and contests oriented to families and children will be staged to encourage students in Dubai schools to visit festivities venue at Al Ghubaiba Bus Station throughout the week. Events in place include juggling, face painting, handicrafts and cartoons among others,” continued Al Ali.
“Questionnaires had been conducted among mass transit users to probe their preferred events during the Public Transport Day where it became evident that conducting medical checkups was ranked high amongst their priorities. Medical checkups therefore, will be run at the Union, Terminal 3, and Healthcare City Metro Stations throughout the week. Blood donation events will be coordinated with the Dubai Health Authority and will be held at Al Ghubaiba Bus Station for two days (October 31, and November 1 2014), he further added. More info
