Dubai plans metro extensions
Design and planning of three extensions which will add 35.4km and 33 stations to Dubai's metro network is well underway, according to the acting CEO of Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) Rail Agency, Mr Abullah Yousuf Al Ali.

In addition to the connectivity between metro lines, efforts are made to connect Dubai metro to Etihad Rail, which will run to Oman and Saudi Arabia. Three proposed stations — Al Maktoum Airport Station, Dubai Land Station and the Central Station — will provide access to the wider Etihad Rail network.
Dubai Metro's Green Line to be extended
The achievement is yet another feather in the cap for Dubai as Dubai Metro's Red Line had set a Guinness World Record as the longest driverless Metro line in the world extending 52 km, in September 2011. Plans are under way to extend the Green Line to cover Academic City, International City and Lagoons within the next five years, Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of the Rail Agency at the RTA, said in an interview.
Distinct education and human resources hubs
Free Zone universities in Dubai have moved or expanded in Academic City, while Knowledge Village transforms into a human resources cluster. The development of the Dubai Metro, together with a free Metro shuttle bus service, means that their current location is very convenient for most of its student body, van der Spek said. In addition a significant proportion of UOWD enrolled students are in part time post graduate programmes.
