The Sharaf DG Metro Station has a footfall of more than 7.8 million riders per year.

Nearly 50 million people journeyed aboard the Dubai Metro in the first quarter of this year, with another 1.3 million riders utilised the Dubai Tram services.

Al Seef marine station has been closed for a period of three months. Marine traffic has temporarily been relocated to Al Fahidi station, said the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Acting CEO of RTA Rail Agency, said: “The number of the metro riders during the first three months of this year constitute a solid indicator that the Dubai Metro has become one of the prime transit means commanding the attention of the Dubai residents, visitors and tourists, offering smooth mobility and access to key parts of the city in a way that measures up to the needs and expectations of users.

During the first quarter of 2013, Dubai Metro managed to achieve a significant increase in the number of its commuters compared to the same period last year; as the number of commuters of both Red and Green lines increased to around 33 million and 341 thousand and 95 since January throughout March 2013, this indicates the significance of the Metro to the whole society as the best used means of transportation.

It was business as usual at the Dubai Metro Red line on Saturday as its sister line, the newly opened Green Line, started its first day of public operations. The footfall in the Red and Green Line stations were moderate, with adequate seating in all the train carriages.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will launch on September 9, 2011, the official operation of the Dubai Metro Green Line; which stretches 23 km and comprises 18 stations in addition to the two transfer stations; Union and Khalid bin Al Waleed Stations shared with the Red Line.
