With the second stage of the Etihad Rail network now in motion, the tracks it will follow in the emirate of Dubai are beginning to take shape. Four stations are currently under consideration to be constructed in Dubai as part of the Etihad Rail network.

Design and planning of three extensions which will add 35.4km and 33 stations to Dubai's metro network is well underway, according to the acting CEO of Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) Rail Agency, Mr Abullah Yousuf Al Ali.

Hertz UAE has today announced the opening of a new car rental location at Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai World Central (DWC), the venue for the Dubai World Expo 2020.

The newly completed Al Maktoum International airport that will be officially inaugurated on Oct.27, will be a great boost to UAE's economic growth. The new airport at Jebel Ali has the capacity to handle 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per year and consists of five runways.

Low-cost European carrier Wizz Air will fly to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine from the new Al Maktoum International Airport on October 27. Seats to Budapest, Bucharest and Sofia start from €25 while Kiev fares begin at €40.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will fast-track a Dh5 billion expansion of the Dubai Metro’s Red Line to connect to the Dubai World Central, if the emirate wins the bid to host the World Expo 2020, a top official said.

“We’re now working on a master plan which will see how we can produce the right amount of capacity for Dubai’s aviation growth up to 2045, so we are thinking a long way ahead here and there are plenty of options,” Griffiths said.

Dubai World Central is to be directly served by the city of Dubai's metro system and the national Etihad Rail passenger network when it comes into being, Khalifa Al Zaffin, the executive chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, said yesterday.

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) announced the opening of several road & bridges works in JAFZA (South) forming parts of the mega Parallel Roads of Sheikh Zayed Improvement Project. Last May, the RTA opened the service road leading to the Expo Road, and last December it opened the lane linking Al Maktoum Airport with JAFZA South.

Al Maktoum International Airport will start business aviation operations in early 2013 while its commercial passenger facility will be opened later in the year, according to top government officials. The new airport at Dubai World Central, or DWC, also expects more than 110 per cent growth in cargo this year in terms of volume.
