Green Line to be extended to Academic City
The much-speculated extension of the Green Line of Dubai Metro, which began its operations last month, is a certainty with plans to stretch it up to the Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) soon, a senior Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official told Khaleej Times.

Metro Green Line gaining ground
Dubai Metro transported 5.9 million passengers last month, its high-est monthly average in two years, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported on Wednesday. The number puts the daily average for Green Line just over 50,000 passengers, while it is around 160,000 for the Red Line.

The RTA is hoping that with the opening of the Green Line and the future opening of the Al Sufouh Tram, the market share of public transport users will rise to 30 per cent per cent. Mr Al Tayer said that between 11 and 12 per cent of that 30 per cent will be carried by the Metro, 6 to 9 per cent by bus, and the remainder by taxis and marine transport.

A source in the company said, “The company has completed interiors in the Metro stations and more than 80 per cent of parking in Al Qusais, with a capacity of 2,700 vehicles.”
