Dubai Car Free Day may take national stage
Dubai's Car Free Day initiative is likely to be extended to all the emirates with the Environment Minister supporting the idea to make it a national drive. Responding to a query by Khaleej Times, Minister for Environment and Water Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad said he would support the idea of taking the initiative to the UAE level.
Car-Free Day gets bigger
About 7,000 cars are expected to be off the roads in Dubai this Wednesday as the private sector joins the Dubai Municipality’s annual Car-Free Day initiative in its fourth edition. Nearly 30 entities, including government departments and ministries, will also take part in the civic body’s environmental initiative to make it bigger and better this time.
Private organisations to mark Car Free Day from next year
Private organisations will also observe ‘Car Free Day' from next year as Dubai Municipality plans to reach out to people across various segments to do their bit for the environment and support its initiative. Car-free Day on January 18 in Dubai
Announcing this at a press conference on Wednesday, Director General of DM Hussain Nasser Lootah said 13 government offices and ministries, mostly located along the Dubai Metro line are joining the civic body in its annual initiative on its third anniversary. The Municipality will close its parking lots and senior officials and employees of participating entities will board the Metro and buses on Wednesday, leaving their cars back home.
