The Qatar Railway Company will likely award the logistics co-ordinator contract for the Doha Metro network before the end of this year, according to a statement from a company official.

QATAR: Qatar Rail has signed the first round of engineering and consultancy contracts for the planned US$36bn national network of railway and metro routes.

Resourcing International, a subsidiary of the Resourcing Solutions Group has successfully tendered to recruit for Qatar Rail, the company at the core of Qatar’s ‘infrastructure dream’.

The metro and rail system, which would include a connection to Bahrain, will cost $35 billion to $40 billion to build, Mee said. The first phase of the project will connect the airport in the south to a racetrack on the northern outskirts of the capital Doha, he added. The second phase will extend the network to cities in the north and south.

Tenders for the Doha Metro project will be issued in the second quarter, Qatar Railways Co's group director said on Tuesday, in the second delay in tendering the $41 billion rail project. "It will be in April or May," Ghanim al-Ibrahim told Reuters by telephone. The project will include four rail lines and will link stadiums for the 2022 soccer World Cup which Qatar will host, with an underground component in the centre of the capital Doha.
