Dubai motorists committed more than 2.3 million traffic offences in 2013, out of which around 1.19 million were speeding offences, statistics from Dubai Police show.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), announced the accomplishment of 68 per cent in the Trade Center Bridges Project at Zaabeel, adding that the project is set for opening by the end of this year. The Project comprises the construction of 22 precast concrete slabs bridges extending 4250 meters with a capacity of two lanes in each direction, in addition to a 120 meter-long concrete bridge added to serve the traffic heading towards Al Maktoum Bridge.

A minibus owner could face an year in jail and a fine for failing to report his friend to police after the latter mowed down a man while driving his vehicle last month. The minibus owner, A.M, 52, an Indian national, has been charged with failing to inform the traffic police when his friend, A.H, 27, a Pakistani national, fatally knocked down a 24-year-old Emirati man on Dubai-Al Ain Road, said senior chief prosecutor Salah Bu Farousha, head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution (TPP).

Number of deaths due to traffic accidents in Dubai during the first 10 months of 2010 decreased compared to the same period last year. Only March and July saw an increase of deaths this year. There were 20 deaths reported in March this year against 18 in the same month last year, while July saw 14 fatal accidents compared to 10 last year, he added.
