After effectively implementing the heavy trailer testing system in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has proposed to authorities in other emirates to adopt the system in order to curb the number of accidents caused by heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles are estimated to cause more than 20 per cent of accidents on highways, many of them due to ill-maintained and faulty trailers, claiming dozens of lives every year.
Free train and bus travel as Dubai marks Public Transport Day
Nol cardholders will be able to zip around the emirate for free today on the Metro, buses and water buses for the Roads and Transport Authority's third annual Public Transport Day. Festivities include a street party on Al Seef Road between 5pm and 9pm, and RTA employees will hold quiz shows at bus shelters and Metro stations to award commuters with iPads, bikes and Nol cards.

RTA and Dubai Customs Eid working hours announced
Car parking at all the paid zones in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai, except the Fish Market in Dubai, will be free from Friday till the third day of Eid (Monday, August 20 or Tuesday, August 21, depending on moon sighting), while Dubai Metro will operate extended hours from 5am until 1am. The Metro services will start at 5.50am during holidays while the feeder bus services will start at 6am and will operate till 1am.
