The Dubai Metro project is an example of great planning and clockwork execution. On May 29, 2005, the project was announced and the following day, the contract was signed. On March 21, 2006, the ground-breaking ceremony was complete, and work began in earnest.

The operating company for the Dubai Metro has completed experimental tests of the Green Line - the moving test without passengers. A source in the company said, “The company has completed interiors in the Metro stations and more than 80 per cent of parking in Al Qusais, with a capacity of 2,700 vehicles.”

Mr. Essa Abdulrahman Al Dosari, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, stated that these initiatives included three axes. The first axis is concerned with the policies and systems of environmental management and mobility programs.

Motorists in Dubai are furious that fines are imposed even for just a few minutes after the expiry of their paid parking tickets. A motorist who uses the SMS service to pay for his parking claimed that he was issued a fine two minutes after the expiry of the date of paid parking.

The firm also hopes to announce onshore projects in Iraq by the end of 2011 and will bid for work on Qatar's $36 billion railway and metro project as it aims to have 50 percent of its work outside the United Arab Emirates by the end of 2012.

The flyover across Al Houdh Roundabout or Dock Roundabout will be opened in September, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The project is set for full completion in the second quarter of 2013.

The popular bus route was a lifeline for hundreds of workers who were dependent on it for their daily commutation between office and home. However, much to their chagrin, the route was cancelled following the launch of Dubai Metro in September 2009.

RTA has submitted a suggestion to explore the possibility of allowing those who have completed 17 years and six months to open a traffic file and train to drive light vehicles.

"The project is part of RTA's Master Plan to upgrade mass transportation on buses with the aim of attracting new commuters and hence contributing to easing roads congestions. These highly sophisticated buses feature top quality specifications, affordable fare and wide geographical coverage, and as such provide a big boost to the integration of mass transit modes spanning public buses, Dubai Metro and marine modes.

The Bus Dep’t, Public Transport Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has honoured 150 distinguished bus drivers during the biannual 2010 ceremony held at Al Awir Station attended by the CEO of Public Transport Agency Eisa Abdul Rahman Al Dosari and the Director of Bus Furat Al Amri in addition to other Directors and officials of the Agency.
