Public Transport Day initiative on Nov 1st
The day will be marked with a free use of the Dubai Metro, public buses and water bus for Nol card holders. The second round of the initiative is set to be widely popular among public and private entities as well as all community segments.
Fewer students involved in run-over accidents; no deaths in 2011
“Only four run-over accidents were recorded in the first half of this year in which four children sustained minor to moderate injuries,” said the CEO of Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Traffic and Roads Agency, Eng. Maitha Bin Udai. She said if the drivers “play their part with utmost caution, they can help a long way in averting traffic accidents.”
RTA projects contribute to Dubai competitiveness
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), revealed that the projects and improvements carried out by the RTA, comprising roads, bridges & tunnels as well as mass transit network including Dubai Metro, public buses & marine transit modes, contributed to reducing the cost of time wasted annually due to traffic congestions from 4.9 billion dirham in 2005 to 2.4 billion dirham in 2010.

A 1·5 km extension of Istanbul metro line M2 from Darüssafaka to Haciosman opened on May 23, taking the line length to 18 km. The southern extension of M2 from Sishane to Yenikapi over the new Golden Horn Bridge is expected to open in 2014.
Commuters are going green
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), so far this year over 180 million passengers in Dubai have taken the green approach by using public transportation. According to Gulf News readers, this increase can be explained by the improvement in services and convenience it provides.
Metro Green line tests done – ready for launch
The operating company for the Dubai Metro has completed experimental tests of the Green Line - the moving test without passengers. A source in the company said, “The company has completed interiors in the Metro stations and more than 80 per cent of parking in Al Qusais, with a capacity of 2,700 vehicles.”
RTA Public Transport Agency further consolidates environmental sustainability
Mr. Essa Abdulrahman Al Dosari, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, stated that these initiatives included three axes. The first axis is concerned with the policies and systems of environmental management and mobility programs.
