With the advent of Eid Al Adha, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced revised timings of services during Eid holiday. Metro: From Eid’s first day up to Thursday (Nov.10), Metro stations will receive commuters from 5.50am up to 1am, and on Friday from 1pm up to 1am.

The mass transit system in Dubai witnessed an improvement in the quality and number of means used to deliver services to passengers and the number of public transport users (metro, buses, marine transit modes and taxis) is expected to rise from 250 million in 2009 and 289 million passengers in 2010 to as much as 350 million passengers by the end of this year.

The day is set to highlight the use of public transport, reduce road congestion and protect the environment by reducing carbon emission from vehicle exhausts. About 50 lucky commuters will also receive a top up of Dh100 of credit on their Nol cards on the day.

November 1st marks the launch of “Together we move,” the RTA’s second Free Public Transport day. As its name suggests, the campaign ensures commuters free rides on the metro, public buses and water bus-whatever your little heart desires, as long as you have a NOL card you are good to go.

Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by Eng. Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Board Chairman, Executive Director of Road and Transport Authority (RTA), about the route of Tram, which extends 14.7 km along Al Sufouh Street. 10.7 km will be executed in the first phase at cost Dh4 billion. It will start from Marina district to Emirates Mall.

Following a demand from passengers for Sharjah-bound buses from Dubai, to have halts at areas near Al Mamzar or Al Mulla Plaza, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said it would plan for a direct route to Sharjah starting from the same areas.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is seeking to make the 3rd edition of the Public Transport Day a highly captivating event with the aim of attracting more passengers to use public transport means, including the metro, public buses and water bus, free of charge for one day.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairmanand Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the completion of all construction works at the 1st Interchange on Sheikh Zayed Road, which will be opened for traffic by the end of January 2011, a statement said.

The day will be marked with a free use of the Dubai Metro, public buses and water bus for Nol card holders. The second round of the initiative is set to be widely popular among public and private entities as well as all community segments.
