No plans to cut taxis after Dubai Metro success
“The total number of taxis [on the roads] is 7942. We are not planning to reduce the number of taxis, because we need to have all modes of transport in place,” said Essa Al Dossari, the CEO of public transport at the RTA. “We are serving a number of different categories [of people], including business people and tourists. There needs to be a variety [of options].”

Car-free Day on January 18 in Dubai
Announcing this at a press conference on Wednesday, Director General of DM Hussain Nasser Lootah said 13 government offices and ministries, mostly located along the Dubai Metro line are joining the civic body in its annual initiative on its third anniversary. The Municipality will close its parking lots and senior officials and employees of participating entities will board the Metro and buses on Wednesday, leaving their cars back home.

According to Dubai Events, the total number of visits between December 1, 2011 and January 1, 2012 to the website reached 61,750 with 79.29 per cent of the visits being unique. In the run-up to DSF, visits to the website featuring the festivals events increased by 20 per cent.
Al Khail Road to provide easy alternative for motorists
The Dh1.925 billion Al Khail Road Widening and Improvement Project was approved in 2008 to help ease traffic congestion on Dubai's major roads. Al Khail Road is a 15-kilometre stretch of highway which runs parallel to Shaikh Zayed Road and Emirates Road and provides an important link to new developments and the Business Bay Crossing.
