Dubai to get 1,100 new taxis
Commuters in Dubai will soon benefit from a raft of new taxis after the emirate’s transport regulator agreed to purchase 1,100 new 2013 Toyota vehicles. The deal between Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and dealership Al Futtaim Motors will see 930 Camry, 20 Hybrid Camry and 150 Innova cars enter Dubai’s taxi fleet.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has seen an increase in the number of passengers using public transport in Dubai during the first half of 2012, with 207.48 million taking the emirate’s mass transport system. This compares with 180.54 million passengers using the Metro, public buses, water transport and taxis during the first half of 2011.

RTA starts two bus routes to Tecom free zones
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced two new bus routes
--Route 83 and Route 85 -- that will connect Tecom free zones Dubai Internet
City (DIC), Dubai Media City (DMC) and Dubai Knowledge Village (DKV) to Karama
and Discovery Gardens respectively. The buses operating on the new routes can cut down the commuting time for
office-goers within the free zones by almost 50 per cent. The timings of the two
bus routes take into account the peak hours.
Dh26.3 million bonus to cab plate holders
In his capacity as the Ruler of Dubai, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the payment of a bonus amounting to Dh26.388 million to Emiratis whose cab number plates are operated by the Dubai Taxi Corporation and Taxi Franchise Companies at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA); the total number of which is 6,597.
Public urged to leave their cars at home today
