The world’s first tramway that uses Platform Screen Doors in passenger stations fully synchronised with the tram’s doors opening and shutting mechanism, the Dubai Tram started testing without passengers on January 26 at Zone 1.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), revealed that mass transit systems of the RTA - comprising the Dubai Metro, public buses, marine transit modes and taxis (Dubai Taxi and franchise companies taxis) - have all lifted 440.672 million passengers in 2013, according to statistics released by RTA Statistics Section.

The testing of Dubai Tram, a rail vehicle that will run heavily on tracks along streets spanning 10.6 kilometres from Dubai Marina to Al Sufouh, begins at Zone 1 on January 26.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the arrival of the first Dubai tram coaches to Jebel Ali port in the middle of this week.

Dubai's department of finance raised $675 million from a dual-currency loan to complete the first phase of its Al-Sufouh tram project in the emirate.

Dubai The Dubai Department of Finance announced Wednesday that it has completed dual currency financing of $675 million (Dh2.48 billion) to complete phase 1 of the construction of the Al Sufouh Tram project. Earlier this month, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) awarded a 13-year maintenance contract for the Al Sufouh tramway to a consortium comprising Alstom and Cofely Besix Facility Management (FM).
