Dubai Airports conducted an operational trial involving some 1,200 Dubai residents on Saturday to test the readiness of the passenger terminal building at Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC) in advance of its opening later this month.

Low-cost European carrier Wizz Air will fly to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine from the new Al Maktoum International Airport on October 27. Seats to Budapest, Bucharest and Sofia start from €25 while Kiev fares begin at €40.

Dubai International Airport will overtake London Heathrow to become the world’s busiest civil aviation hub by next year, according to Dubai Airports chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

Dubai World Central, the emirate's second airport, is to open for passenger flights from October 26 with two carriers operating, following repeated delays, Dubai Airports said Wednesday. Dubai World Central, launched at the height of Dubai's rapid economic growth, is touted to become the world's largest airport when completed, with an annual capacity of 160 million passenger.

Dubai is one of Wilhelmsen Ships Service's largest areas of operation and the new office, which is also in close proximity to Sheikh Zayed Road and the new Dubai Metro, is one of the biggest in the network, with more than 150 personnel.
