The 23-kilometre Green Line, which starts at the Etisalat Station in Al Qusais near Emirates Road, will be missing two stops at first: the Al Jadaf and Creek stations. Those facilities are not scheduled to open because property projects in the area are not complete.

Dubai is already home to the largest driverless rail system in the world and now the emirate plans to broaden its train lines further. The launch of the second line of the Dubai Metro - the Green Line, has been delayed yet again. The line, which was originally slated to open in April 2010 and then postponed to August 2011, will now be operational in the last quarter of this year, according to the top executive of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The Roads and Transport Authority has held talks with contractor, the Alstom-Besix Consortium, and has asked it to "step up the tempo" on the project, Al Tayer, the RTA's chairman and executive director said in a statement on Saturday.

THE number of public transport users in Dubai has increased by leaps and bounds. Comprising just 6 per cent of the Emirate’s transport users a year ago, they now constitute 12 per cent of its residents using various modes of transport, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) revealed.

France is prepared to assist Qatar in its major projects, especially in the transport sector, the French Minister of Transport, Thierry Mariani (pictured) who is on a two-day visit to Doha said here yesterday. The best way France could be satisfied with these economic relationships is to prepare for the future.
