Roads & Transport Authority - Nashwan Atta'ee: The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) will soon be launching the Dubai Travel Pass (Terhaal) initiative; a pack that gives visitors to Dubai the ability to use public transportation with relative ease upon arrival in the Emirate. The intention is to provide means for visitors to travel from their homes and back to their homes seamlessly.

"The Public Transport Day initiative, which attracts participation of various government authorities and departments as well as private sector entities and different community segments, aims at highlighting the role of Dubai Emirate in supporting the initiatives that contribute to the improvement of the environment, attaining sustained development, encouraging inhabitants to use public transport modes and promoting the modern mass transit means provided by the RTA including the Dubai Metro, public buses and marine transit systems," said Al Tayer.

Residents and visitors to Dubai have been urged to leave their cars at home and use the Dubai Metro and buses on the occasion of Free Public Transport Day being observed in the emirate on November 1. The Metro is a key mass transit mode that has attracted much attention recently judging by its popularity among all segments of the community and the number of commuters served during the first year of operation which exceeded 30 million passengers," noted Al Hammadi

If you notice more pedestrians than usual on the streets on Wednesday it’s because it’s World Car Free Day – the only day in the year when people around the world are urged to abandon their vehicles in favor of public transport or walking. However, Nol card holders can use the Metro, or avail of the water and bus rides free of charge in celebration of Public Transport Day on November 1, which the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched to commemorate its fifth anniversary.

More than 67,000 Gold Class Nol cards have been sold for Dubai Metro since the network launched in September, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Monday.

Mohammed Al Mudharreb, Director of Unified Automated Fare Collection Department (UAFC) at Corporate Technical Support Services Sector of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), announced that the total number of unified cards (Nol Cards) sold since the initial offering on 22 August till the end of December 2009 totaled about 1.2 million Nol Silver Cards.
