The number of commuters using the Red Line since launched on 9/9/2009 till the end of September 2012 hit 170,621,483 passengers. The ridership is continuously on the rise; jumping from 1.8 million passengers in October 2009 to 3.3 million passengers in August 2010 and went further to hit 6.5 million passengers in November this year.

Amazing trip around Dubai by metro train

A reassuring picture of workers devoted to returning lost property would hardly be the first to come to mind when you have just left Dh40,000 on a train. So it would have been with a great sense of dread that a man arrived at Dubai Metro's Khalid bin Al Waleed station after leaving a wallet full of foreign currency to that value.

The leading French technology firm Thales is looking to replicate its success with the Dubai Metro in Hyderabad, which is planning a modern metro system. Thales, which provides India with the crucial defence technology, is now offering its expertise in civilian technology, inclu-ding signalling, telecommunications and ticketing, for the Hyderabad Metro project.

A free newspaper aimed at Dubai Metro commuters was launched yesterday. The weekly title, Read, has an initial print run of 80,000 copies, and is distributed in stations on the network's Red Line.

Cheap advertising, eh? Well Kipp hopes RTA gets the memo because last year it ran what Kipp admits is a very creative campaign that involved fake sunny-side up eggs placed on thousands of car hoods across Dubai as part of a campaign to encourage car owners to use the Dubai Metro. The eggs were printed on palm-sized cards and mounted on magnets. It had a small message that read: “It’s a cool 20°C on the Metro”.

For this end RTA has constructed the Dubai Metro project; which is considered the longest driverless metro line ever constructed in the world as a single project. The Red Line was opened on 9/9/2009 and the Green Line is to be opened next September.
