The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and the University of Wollongong in Dubai discussed ways & means of boosting their joint cooperation towards improving the forthcoming edition of the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST).

The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has built a number of speed humps inside Dubai’s International City over the past few months with the aim of increasing pedestrian safety. The move, which included building two to three speed humps on almost every main street in the area, has affected the flow of traffic at all times of the day.

Officials are studying the possibility of extending Dubai Metro’s services to two more stations, a senior Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official told Gulf News. The authority expects an increase in ridership of five per cent annually. “RTA is currently studying the possibility of extending services to two more stations — one on the Green Line and one on the Red Line,” Ramadan Abdullah, Director of Rail Operations at Dubai Metro, told Gulf News.

Paid parking will be fully introduced in Dubai Media City, Dubai Internet City and Dubai Knowledge Village next year. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a 10-year agreement with Tecom to operate, manage and regulate their parking bays.

The Road and Transport Authority (RTA), in response to a tweet on whether commuters can be fined if found listening to music without headphones on the Metro, said: “One needs to inform the RTA inspector and they will do the needful. The fine is Dh100.” As per the RTA website, causing inconvenience, discomfort or distress to other passengers in any way whatsoever will result in a fine of Dh100.

Fifty more radars are to be installed on Dubai's roads to cover all the emirate's intersections, police have said. The radars, which will be concentrated in newer neighbourhoods, are equipped with new technology that connects them to the police headquarters database.
