RTA kicks off road safety drive
With more residents travelling during summer, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has kicked off a road safety awareness campaign, urging motorists to be cautious to avoid accidents. The campaign targets long distance road travellers as well as students at public libraries and summer camps.
RTA and Salik call centres win awards
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Salik call centres have won INSIGHTS Middle East’s award in the category of governmental medium-sized centres. The awards were received by Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Dubai RTA, during a meeting with Dominick Keenaghan, President of INSIGHTS.
RTA works to reduce taxi waiting time
“The new system divides Dubai city into 180 areas. When a call is received the system automatically tracks down the taxi closest to the location of the caller and that taxi is dispatched to the caller,” Adel Shakeri, Director of Transport Systems at the Public Transport Agency said. The previous system divided the city into 72 areas and hence was less efficient.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai, UAE has launched a special licensing service for some of the rarest classic cars in the country.
Road deaths in Dubai 'down by 32%'
Fewer people are being killed on the emirate's roads thanks to police safety campaigns. There has been a 32 per cent drop in the number of deaths so far this year compared with the same period of 2011. Police said there were 38 deaths, down from 56 last year. Last month one person was killed, compared with 11 in May 2011.
RTA urges proper investment into infra maintenance
"The frameworks of strategic asset management teach us to manage the whole life cycle of our infrastructure in order to save the government billions in the long-run. This means that we have to start from the planning stage through design, acquiring, operating, maintaining all the way to retiring or replacing the asset,” said Adi Omar Al Deesi
Proceeds of RTA auction fetch Dhs27m
The 76th Open Number Plates Auction held by the Licensing Agency of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) was warmly received by various community segments. The auction covered several distinguished licensing numbers including 2, 3, 4 and 5-digit plates of various codes, helping the aggregate proceeds of the auction to go as high as Dhs27.09 million.
Dubai residents get the boot into pedestrian footbridges
Dubai Poorly maintained pedestrian footbridges across the city irk residents, especially as temperatures rise. Lack of elevators and non-functional escalators are some of the complaints raised by residents. There are different types of pedestrian crossings. Some are enclosed and have air conditioning, while others just have stairs or ramps. There are footbridges with and without escalators as well as elevators.
