Contractor says Dubai tram will meet 2014 deadline
Dubai’s long awaited Al Sufouh tram will meet its deadline of November 2014, according to the main contractor. The consortium of firms working on the project said they have now received outstanding payments from 2009, after the government secured a $675m financing deal for the project’s first phase.

RTA begins registration of heavy vehicles
DUBAI: The Licensing Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started licensing trailers and semi-trailers of trucks, a step they said is aimed at “boosting road safety and protecting public properties”.
No plans to cut taxis after Dubai Metro success
“The total number of taxis [on the roads] is 7942. We are not planning to reduce the number of taxis, because we need to have all modes of transport in place,” said Essa Al Dossari, the CEO of public transport at the RTA. “We are serving a number of different categories [of people], including business people and tourists. There needs to be a variety [of options].”
Dubai Metro's Green Line to be extended
The achievement is yet another feather in the cap for Dubai as Dubai Metro's Red Line had set a Guinness World Record as the longest driverless Metro line in the world extending 52 km, in September 2011. Plans are under way to extend the Green Line to cover Academic City, International City and Lagoons within the next five years, Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of the Rail Agency at the RTA, said in an interview.
Filipinos top users of Dubai Metro, RTA study shows
The Filipino community has shown the highest affinity for Dubai Metro, followed by Indians and Europeans, while Emirati commuters make up 12 per cent of Metro users, according to a study conducted by the RTA.
